Before you start

Check the fitment table and confirm you have a floor console shifter rather than a column shifter. Park, set the brake, and put the shifter where it gives you the most room to work - usually low in the gate.

What you need

A plastic trim removal tool. A screwdriver will mark the console.
A socket set, for the knob retainer on some builds.
Thirty minutes.

The steps

1. Remove the shift knob

Depending on the build, the knob either lifts off after releasing a retainer under the boot, or unthreads. Do not force it: if it does not move, there is a clip still holding.

2. Free the console trim

Work the trim tool around the edge of the surround and release the clips one at a time. They are stiff when cold. Nothing here is glued.

3. Lift out the cracked bezel

Once the trim is clear the old bezel slides straight out of the shifter track. This is usually the moment you find out how much of it has already gone into the console.

4. Seat the RL-1001

Drop the new bezel into the same track, aligned so it travels with the shifter through the gate. Because it is flexible, it will bend as you position it. That is the point.

5. Reassemble

Press the trim back down until the clips seat, refit the knob, and run the shifter through the full gate once to confirm the bezel tracks with it cleanly.

If something does not fit

Stop and send a photo through the work order. A wrong part costs you a return and costs Rev Layers a review, so it is worth the two minutes.
