Why this exists
The shifter bezel on a Ford truck is a thin piece of rigid plastic that slides through the shift gate every time the truck is driven, in a cabin that sits in the sun. It goes brittle and it splits. They all do.
Ford's answer costs between $125.67 and $176.67 depending on which number applies to your year, and two of the seven numbers are discontinued outright. When a number is discontinued the dealer quotes the entire shifter assembly, because that is the only thing left on the shelf. The mechanism under the bezel is almost always fine. It is the cover that wears.
So the replacement is $25, it is flexible instead of rigid, and it is in stock.
How it is made
Printed in thermoplastic polyurethane, which bends like a watch strap and returns rather than cracking. Ceramic coated for UV, because the failure mode being solved is a part that cooked in a parked truck. Then inspected by hand, one at a time, in batches.
Not injection moulded, not drop-shipped, and not scooped out of a container of parts someone else made. That is slower and it is the reason a lifetime warranty is possible: replacing one costs material and postage.
